11/16/05 Today MAMA's general counsel met with other interested parties at the offices of Coast Guard Group Milwaukee to discuss the complaint concerning continued use of winter poles during the summer boating season. It was agreed that federal regulations defer to the Milwaukee Harbor Master regarding regulation of the mooring areas located within the Milwaukee Harbor, which includes the McKinley Marina basin. The Milwaukee Harbor Master indicated that he would continue his policy of announcing a seasonal date by which winter poles must be exchanged with mooring buoys. The deadline varies from season to season depending upon the weather and ice conditions. MAMA's general counsel agreed that the McKinley mooring owners would adhere to the changeover date established by the Harbor Master. MAMA would declare all non-complying moorings as abandoned after the deadline and would replace the winters poles with mooring buoys. |
